PRIORITY WORK AT OFFICE
Priorities
or priority or Prioritizing … huh! The most confusing & psychologically troubling
thing to do. This is by boss, lets prioritize, this is for wife`s take home
list, lets super-prioritize, I am wasting money on this, lets prioritize. So
many blabbers, so much to think, so less time.
What
I wrote above is confusing just like what happens in our head while
prioritizing things in our day to day life. As everything in our life is
important just because we don’t want to end 2nd & wish to be the first. And
that’s not a bad thought either.
So
how to end this psychological race into ranking & winning over our ACTION
ITEMS. Action shall happen in our processes in an automated
way & not merely in our thought or mind
To
become more mentally stable & balanced. Always, remember Priority
& Ranking are 2 different things ( let me emphasize ) DIFFERENT things to
do. Ranking is lower priority. Priority is highest ranking.
Lets
understand, WHEN, WHY & HOW to prioritize.
WHEN
1.
When you
feel, you have a very limited time & high amount of work with you.
Remember, I talked about action items. So, when these action items start having
action with your mind & start ticking your cerebral nerves. The time is
right to start prioritizing.
WHY
1.
That was simple to answer, to keep yourself
healthy & balanced in your mind. And focus right amount of attention on
right kind of work, at right & stipulated TIME.
HOW
1.
To-Do List:- First of all do
know, how many things you have in your box. So, settle down, take a breath,
make a List of things / request you need to fulfil.
2.
Methodical :- Traditional
methods / management research styled book helps here
a.
PRIORITIZATION MATRIX - put a small whiteboard
in front of you, Divide it into 4 quardrants. Urgency refers to Time &
Important means the level of importance it has. Obviously, if it is from
customer or your boss or your CT head, it might sound important. So, don’t wait
& list it in URGENT & Important. Jokes aside, set your priorities as
per your customer deliveries & demands. It is also known as eisenhower
matrix. For me, I would do the task in Qurdrant 1 by myself. Others I will plan
to delegate. You can also do that based on your team size & collabortive
nature of work
b.
c. Microsoft note - You may use MS note for making
daily taks or regular notes & prioritize the tasks
d.
Mark a flag with reminder in MS outlook itself.
e.
Assign/delegate To-Do Task calendar to your team
mates.
Now,
a little of my own task masters, I had shared above with you all. Hope it helps
& adds up a little help to you all. Always, remember, the HIGHEST of all
the PRIORITIES is HEALTH. Always give top priority to your health. So keep a
quality time for your sport ( not viewing but playing) & meals with family.
I
was told to finish in 600 words, so will have to prioritize the blog guidelines
now.
But
Do remember PRIORITY & RANKING are different things. Don’t run for
rankings, work on priorities & ranks will automatically follow.
